Alternate Ending

After Nora, and Helmer exchange rings.

Nora: I will send Christine to pick up the rest of my things in the morning.

(Torvald looks at Nora with great disgust)

Torvald: So that’s it you’re just going to leave me and your children behind?!?

(Nora flinches at the tone but keeps her composer)

Nora: Yes, I must leave to go and find myself but…

(The door on the right opens slowly)

Ivar: mommy daddy what’s going on why are you guys yelling

Nora: Baby go back to bed Mommy will be in-

(Torvald cuts her off)

Torvald: Your mothers running away from you

(In a tear filled voice)

Ivar: Mommy!?! Don’t leave please I will be good I won’t do anything wrong mommy please stay?!? Don’t leave me!!!

Nora: NO!! Honey it’s not you I just need time to myself I need to get better then I will come and get you and your sisters I promise

Torvald:  No she won’t you know your mothers a liar and a fraud.

(Nora swiftly turns to Torvald with a look of complete fury in her eyes)

Nora: Torvald!! DON’T YOU EVER BAD MOUTH ME IN FRONT OF MY CHILDREN!!

(Torvald rapidly walks over to Nora and stands right in her face.)

Torvald: Nora!?! Have you lost your damn mind!! Don’t you ever yell at me like I’m a child I am the boss. If you ever talk to me like that again I promise you it will be the last time you EVER speak.

(Ivar watches in terror from the corner of the room weeping; Nora wiping tears from her eyes with her handkerchief watching Torvald closely as he goes over to the hall closet and takes out a small metal lock box. Nora: Helmer what are you doing with that!?! (Torvald ignores her and continues trying to open the box)

(In a weird breathless voice he begins to speak) Torvald: Do you remember our wedding vowels? Huh NORA!!!! Do you??? (Nora begins to open her mouth to answer Helmer cuts her off) Torvald: Well of course you do it was the best day of your life. (The metal box pops open in his hand and he smiles down at the box) Nora: Helmer what on earth are you doing (raising her voice)

Nora: Ivar go to your room Now!!! and don’t open the door till mommy comes to get you ok? (She looks at her son with tears in her eyes as if taking a mental picture)(Ivar runs across the floor and into his room where he slams the door shut) (The Helmer’s look at each other for a long moment before Torvald speaks) Torvald: Do you remember the part of our wedding vows when the pastor said “To love and to cherish Till death do us part”??? Huh Nora do you remember!!!

Nora: Yes Torvald I remember what has that to do with anything? (She stammers).

(Torvald grips the gun in hand and lets the metal lock box drop to the floor with a loud Thud startling Nora)(Nora looks at him wide eyed and takes five large steps back and cries out)Nora: Torvald what is wrong with you why are you doing this! Don’t do this the children are in the next room please (she whines) don’t do this to me…. to us…. to…. the children. (Torvald looks at her strangely and mumbles to himself he starts to laugh).

Torvald: Did you think I was going to let you walk out of my house after 8 years of marriage?!!? You would have to be stupid to think that it was going to be that easy. (Torvald walks over to her and grabs her by the arm he twists her around and shoves the barrel of the gun to her left cheek with her arm locked around her neck.)Nora: Torvald Please. (She says threw her loud whimpers).Why are you doing this? I’m sorry I won’t yell at you anymore.

Torvald: You little feather brain it’s too late for that you and your sorry mean nothing to me. (Gripping her tighter)(Nora starts to go into panicked sobs and begins trying to dislodge herself Torvald holds her neck even harder).

Nora: Please Torvald stop this let me go I will be your little skylark I will be no more trouble I’ll cook and clean and do whatever you ask I promise. (Torvald loosens his grip and thinks about what she just said).(Nora throws her elbow into the bottom of his jaw causing Torvald to bite his tongue and drop the gun she then turns around still in his grip and knees him in the stomach. She runs for the gun, picks it up and holds it right at the middle of Torvald’s head.

Torvald: Nora? Give me the gun you have no idea what you’re doing give it to me now.

Nora: Shut up!! I lived in this hell for eight years you are going to listen to me now!!! I’m leaving this house I’m taking my things, and my kids with me. You shall never see any of us ever again. (Nora turns around and starts walking towards the kids’ room when she hears Torvald running up behind her. Torvald pushes her to the wall and tries to grab the gun it goes off and they are both covered in warm blood .Torvald looks up at her with tears in his eyes and he says “Till death do we part”. He slides down on to the floor takes one last shaky breath closes his eyes and dies.  

Nora: Torvald!!!Torvald!!!!(When she realizes that he has stopped breathing and is now dead she grabs her things and her children and walk out the door disappearing into the night never to be seen again).  

Act I "A Doll's House"

      In act one we meet Nora who is a Frivolous wife who lies and does things behind her husband's back. She lied about the macaroons she had and she lied about where she got  the money to pay for the trip that saved Helmer's life. I don't understand why she lied about either of them. She was telling Mrs. Linde how she wanted everyone to stop thinking that she didn't know how to do anything but yet she lied about saving her husbands life if I did that I would be shouting it from the roof tops wouldn't you? I think Nora and Helmers relationship is a terrible one. He doesn't respect her at all like for example he says 'Has my feather brain been out wasting money again'. Now who says something like that to their wife if they really love them?
     I'm a little Incredulous about Nora she has two sides like when she said 'Yes, Torvald I can't do anything without you to help me'. I think she was just saying it for effect not because she really felt that way. But then when she was able to trick Torvald into  thinking she was making Christmas decorations instead of making money to pay back that degenerate Krogstad it was like she was a different person she was actually smart and not so dependent.Krogstad is a corrupt little man who is trying to black mail Nora into helping him keep his job,what he doesn't realize is that if Nora doesn't help him and he does tell Helmer Nora's secret he is still gonna be out of a job. I couldn't believe that Nora was dumb enough to believe Krogstad when he tells her an atmosphere of lies like that infects and poisons the whole life of a home.In a home like that every breath that the children take is filled with germs of evil. I though Nora was smarter than this but now i think maybe she really is a stupid as Helmer treats her.

Henrik Ibsen

Henrik Johan Ibsen was born 20 March 1828 in the port town of Skien, Norway, the son of Marichen and Knud Ibsen, a merchant. While apprenticing with a chemist Ibsen found his true calling, writing Catiline (1850), a tragedy in verse. While living in Germany Ibsen married Suzannah Thoreson with whom he would have a son. Ibsen wrote for and about the middle class and life in the suburbs and small towns. He focused on characters and psychological conflicts rather than dramatic situations.  

  It has been said that Ibsen himself suffered from depression and at times contemplated suicide.He was a central figure in the modern break-through in the intellectual life of Europe, and is considered the father of modern drama.  Ibsen returned to Oslo to spend his final years. Plagued by ill health including paralysing strokes that caused him to be bedridden, he died peacefully on 23 May 1906. He lies buried in the Cemetery of Our Saviour, Vår Frelsers Gravlund, in Oslo, Norway.
